CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) For Motorcycles

The CBT or Compulsory Basic Training was introduced to the UK in 1990 and since that time motorcycle safety as steadily improved year upon year, with each legitimate rider required to be fully prepared and armed with all the right skills and motorcycle craft before being permitted to legally access the public highways and roads. On completion of the CBT, each rider is awarded a DL196 certificate which permits the holder to legally ride motorcycles or mopeds up to and including 125cc, provided “L” or Learner plates are displayed for the first two years. Motorcycle training of this nature is crucial in the pursuit of safer roads, not just for the riders themselves but indeed for all motorists and pedestrians. Unlike learning to drive a car, which in most cases involves going straight onto the public roads in the very first lesson, the CBT motorcycle training allows the learners to build up confidence in the safety of a training centre. There are now many of these centres in the UK and most major towns and cities now have one, so there is every chance that you won’t have to travel too far to get to the nearest centre. There are many benefits to this kind of learning experience. Skilled and experienced professionals will be in charge of all the tutoring and in many cases, much of the equipment, including all your safety gear will be provided for the duration of the training. If you are hoping to ride a motorbike on the roads, then make sure to check out the CBT at your local training centre.
